Saying Goodbye to My URB-E

URB-E GP ORIGINAL EDITION - ARCTIC WHITE

URB-E GP Original Edition – Arctic White

Not to be melodramatic, but my heart feels like it has broken a little. The support team at URB-E has contacted me to advise that they could fulfill and ship my order – within 7 to 10 days!!! Cue the jumping up and down with happiness. However, due to government regulations, they are currently unable to ship their product to Canada. I have chosen to accept their option to refund my deposit. Sniff.

Additionally, the information on their website indicates that their current product cannot handle grades, making it rather useless for my particular commute. I would require it to zoom up and over the bridge in the mornings and to zoom back over the bridge and scale the bluffs on the other side on the return in the evenings. Also of note is that their manual indicates that it should not be used in wet or muddy conditions. ??? This may not be an issue in beautiful, sunny, dry California, but here? Let’s just say that with the torrential downpours this week a kayak would be a better commuter vehicle than my minivan. Unfortunately, I don’t think the URB-E is the right product for me at this time.

Regardless of whether or not this would be a good fit for me, I am saddened by not being able to have my super-cool commuter. It would have been so much fun to ride to work and back home again! I’ll miss the concept of using it. I will miss the idea of being the greenest commuter on the block. I will not, however, miss pining for it while sitting in traffic.

If, someday down the road, they design a version that can handle the hills and withstand the rain, I would still love to have one. Frankly, I’ll be the first in line, but for the time being, another solution to my commuting woes must be found.

Walking on most mornings would be faster than commuting in my minivan. Seriously.
